Volumes were stronger in October in the emerging markets that we monitor, but the rate of improvement was slower than in September.
For the 12 countries where data is currently available, cement shipments in October 2020 were higher than in October 2019 in 10 countries, whereas they declined in only two. There were double-digit percentage increases in seven countries.
Sequentially, comparing the percentage changes in October with those in September, the percentage was lower in 8 of the 12 countries.
Demand remained strong in Brazil, with the fifth successive monthly double-digit percentage increase and a 10.1% increase in the year-to-date.
Cement production increased by 10.3% in October in China and in the first ten months of 2020 was 0.4% higher than in January-October 2019.
Cement production in India increased for the first time in eight months in October.
